Earth Day Cleanup & Tree Planting Day
Hello and welcome. As a part of our Environmental Awareness Program we would like to invite you to join in our Earth Day Road Clean-up and Tree planting days. This is a time each year when we start out by walking the section of road that have been able to adopt in our local Adopt-A-Road program and pick up trash. The trash is then sorted for recyclable and non-recyclable materials. After we finish the 4 mile section of road we then work around the sanctuary planting trees. All during the day we will be discussing our place in the environment and our effect on it. Once the trees are planted and watered we finish out the day with a potluck and drumming that can last well into the night.
On the second day we work around the sanctuary in the gardens, weeding, planting flowers and other plants. This year we are hoping to start two new gardens, a Meditation Garden and a Peace Garden. The Meditation Garden will have a place to sit and possibly a Buddha statue. We hope to place a Peace Pole in the peace garden later this year. Started by Masahisa Goi in 1955, peace poles have become an international symbols of Peace. Each pole is inscribed with the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth” as a reminder to each of us to keep Peace ever-present in our thoughts.
With that we hope to see you for our Environmental Awareness Earth Day Road Clean-up and Tree planting days. Please see the calender for more information.
